Don’t worry about the law if you’re an Illegal

So yesterday there were marches all across the United States, including here in Dallas, of up to 500,000 people protesting the fact that Congress wants to make illegal immigration a felony and to build more walls along the border with Mexico. I watched the KTLA news last night from Los Angeles and these protesters were saying that they shouldn’t be punished for being here and working. That they are here helping our economy, etc. The Dallas Morning News even went to so far as to throw in a sob story: “Sitting next to bronze statues of cattle in Dallas’ Pioneer Plaza, 12-year-old Cesar Hernandez talked about the struggles his family has endured while making a life in the U.S. His mother returned to Mexico last year to get treatment for her diabetes, something she could not find here because of her immigrant status. We need papers and passports,” he said, translating for the aunt who now cares for him in Dallas. “We came here to earn respect. We need a better life.”" To earn respect? By crossing the border illegally? How about coming here legally and going through the lawful process! That is how you earn respect, not by breaking the law.

Further in the article it says ” Baltazar Ortega pressed his face to a Mexican flag someone handed him before the rally started. “I love my flag,” he said. “It’s a source of pride for me. It’s my first time holding a flag in my hands.”" And therein lies the problem. If you are here it’s not the Mexican flag you should be loving. It’s the AMERICAN flag. No exceptions.

It makes me so angry that these people, including the civic leaders who were leading the marches, are missing (perhaps purposely) the entire point!

Congress isn’t saying “All you immigrants need to get out of America.” Congress isn’t saying “We don’t appreciate the contributions immigrants have made to the success of America.” Everyone knows that America has always been a haven for immigrants and we’ve been made better than any other country in the world because of it. The difference between the immigrants of today & the immigrants of yesteryear is that the Immigrants of yesteryear (for the most part) came into America LEGALLY!

Why should we give a pass to someone who supposedly wants to be American yet breaks a law the first time they set foot in our country? That’s the most asinine thing I’ve ever heard. “Oh, you crossed the border illegally? Welcome. Let me get you a blanket & a warm bed.” Completely ridiculous!

One civic leader here in Dallas even went so far as to say “”We are here to demand [legal] residency. We cannot stop. We will achieve justice.”" Justice? You DEMAND justice yet you BROKE the law to get here? The law works both ways, honey!

I never thought much of illegal immigration until I moved to Texas. Undocumented workers are everywhere here. They clog up our emergency rooms because they don’t have health insurance. Some pregnant Mexican women even cross the border just to give birth in the US so their child can be a US Citizen. Then I found this disgusting statistic “Then there’s the incredible cost of educating children who are in the country illegally. According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform, the total national expenditure from grades K-12 for educating illegal immigrant children is about $12 billion per year. If you add the cost of those children who are born to illegal parents, the cost skyrockets to more than $28.6 billion. Texas taxpayers pay $3.9 billion of that.

We as a country cannot afford to foot the bill for people who aren’t willing to follow the law. I saw throw them all out and lock the borders with a steel door. I’m not even going to get into the Al Queda slipping across the border fear.

Honestly I don’t have anything against law abiding Mexicans. My team lead is from a small border town near Mexico and I love her to pieces. She helps me see my intolerances and fix them, but I don’t think I’m being intolerant in this instance. I have to follow the law so should everyone else!
