The 15 employees of North Pole McDonald’s got unexpected time off Wednesday when a fire in the french fry fryer caused enough damage to close down the facility for the near future.
North Pole Fire Chief Buddy Lane said that shortly after noon, the french fry vat caught fire. The hood fire depressant went off correctly and two fire extinguishers were discharged into the flames but failed to put them out.“They’d get it out and then the air would hit it and it would come back,” Lane said.
McDonald’s spokesperson Tina Dickinson said the restaurant was immediately evacuated. However, one worker at the drive-through window did not leave until after dealing with an irate customer who wanted his money returned. The worker suffered from smoke inhalation and, along with another employee who received a burn injury, was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, treated and released.
If I were that worker I would sue that jackass! Hello, the building’s on freaking fire, jerk.
